Animal misconceptions

Hey people from my class and or my teacher, how’s your day going. Because seriously who else would be reading this blog. So it’s been a really long time since I made a post on this thing. Mostly because ever since the need for an other blog to be posted was announced, I’ve been ether at school or at work. But finally, after several minutes trying to turn on my beautifully old and surprisingly still working laptop, I’m back to write some more. I bet you’re just as exited as me about this. Well lets get in to it, misconceptions about animals.

Now I chose some that I’ve heard many times but also heard corrected quite a few times, so hopefully you can at least learn something new about at least one.

To start one you see a lot in older cartoons is that bulls hate the colour red. I don’t know the exact reason why this one started, but I can imagine some guy hanging out in Spain one day with some bulls and they started chasing his red cloth or something. So they immediately thought it had to be because of it being red but it was actually because the guy was being mean. And so from then on people where just always told to fight bulls using red because they hate the colour. But in fact using the magic of science and logic, they where able to figure out that it’s not the colour but the movement that makes the bulls mad. So sorry cartoons your logic is flawed.

Next is one that has kind of become a saying. Is the one that lemming’s will all jump off if one of the members of there heard falls off a cliff. Now it’s kind of just a ridiculous notion to start, so of course it’s not true. Now I can see it being if maybe they where all running next to a cliff, a few might fall off by being pushed but the rest. But no one would follow. I do actually believe that this started by this one video that was made where they all jumped off, but it was actually the crew that pushed them. Like man who would do that.

I’ll end with one more quick one  that has been made into a saying. Bats are not blind. They can see just fine they just prefer to use there sonar. Like wouldn’t you if you had a cool power like that I know I would.

Well that’s it for this time. Thanks for reading.

A few quick ones

Hey there, well it’s been a while again I’m really bad with putting things off so I’m sorry. But this post brings us officially to the halfway point of my blog. YAY! Now this blog will be half in celebration of being half way through this and half because I’m running out of ideas. I’m going to be talking about a few random miscellaneous misconceptions I’ve heard but can’t really place together into a full post. Also I was looking over my old posts and realized there where a few things I said so I’ll add those too.

To start I’ll say the ones I forgot from old posts. For the first one, I forgot the one about cat’s purrs in my last post. It’s not much of a misconception but ill add it. Most think a cat purrs when they’re happy but actually there are many reasons they will, including when they’re hurt because their purrs actually mend bones because I think the frequency, but how cool is that. In I believe what was my third post about Asia I forgot to add the one that I’ve heard a lot of people say before and it was one of there misconceptions that inspired me to make that post. Which is that you can see the Great Wall of China from space. Now technically you can see everything from space, with today’s technology I could see a chalk drawing you made on your driveway. But this is more talking about if you where like an astronaut in the space station just looking at the planet, and in that instance you cannot see it. I’ve looked around at various pictures and gone on Google earth and its just not there. All the pictures you can actually see it in are really zoomed in.

I've looked at this photo and many others like it dozens of times now and i've found nothing.
Well since those ones lasted a lot longer then I thought ill just go over the others a little faster. Starting with black holes. They’re not actually holes I’ve heard people say this but they just aren’t. From my understanding of the topic, in short, they’re just something with a huge gravitational pull, which warps time and space around it. Next Vikings didn’t wear those hats with the horns. Last one that I think a lot of people know all ready but bulls don’t hate the colour red they just attack the cloth in bullfights because it’s moving.

Well that’s it for now, till next time.

Cats

Hey, how’s it going? It feels like forever since I made a post. So this time I’m going to, like in the Canada post, talk about one subject instead of a general thing with a bunch of little subjects. Hopefully I will be able to rant about cats for long enough. This subject is something I have learnt from a bunch of sources throughout the years so I don’t thin I can source something in particular I hope that doesn’t count as plagiarism. Also I have a few more ideas for subjects to talk about but I would be glad to take suggestions if you know any maybe just leave a comment you could potentially be very helpful, thanks. Okay last thing for the intro, I’m supposed to be writing about socially relevant topics so cats probably doesn’t fit al that well, but I’m doing it anyways, ill get back t serious stuff later.

So misconceptions of cats, I personally am a huge cat lover and have a cat named Bella I don’t really know what it is but dogs have really never done it for me. Cats are a very common animal as pet but there are many behaviours a cat will demonstrate that are commonly misinterpreted. For example when a cat bites you it doesn’t always mean they’re mad often it is because they are being playful or loving. Also the way cats see us, now cats think we are very large, mostly hairless kittens in need of protection and guidance. How do we know? Well first cats don’t meow to other adult cats they speak on a different frequency but for us they meow like they would for a hard at hearing kitten. Also have you ever had this happen to you or hear of this that a cat brings dead things to your door, well they do this because they think we cant hunt for ourselves and want to help feed us.

There you have it cats aren’t just being mean, maybe they are also trying to help.

Asia, not in China!

Welcome back, it's been a while since I've made a post. I've also realized lately that my blog is not the most appealing so i will probably do some changes to it in like the next week. This one will probably be a little more crazy, out there and nonsensical, but I never did say these were supposed to be serious.

If you couldn't already tell by the title this post is going to be about Asia. Being that one continent you know the really big one that holds most of the worlds people and is not just China. Witch brings up the first topic, what Asia actually consists of. Lets start by getting a few things out of the way, yes India is in Asia so is most of Russia, Lebanon and the rest of western Asia. No Asia is not in China, like who even thought that. There is also a South Korea and they make good music and weird and amusing tv shows. Now Asia consists of many countries not just China, Japan and North Korea. Just to give you a better idea, because my description is a little lacing, I'll put a picture that illustrates a map of Asia.

I remember once someone said to me (and these are not at all my words please don't hold me accountable I believe we are all equal) that they didn't understand how Asians are so always so smart and they wished they where one instead they where Arabic and therefore not as inherently smart and I didn't have the heart to say they where also of Asian decent.

Next I would just like to focus a little more on just Japan. You see Japan is rather well known for there animes, some of witch will be set in a seemingly normal Japanese town, when actually gives a rather inaccurate portrayal. To start in anime there are usually a lot of crazy and rowdy characters but in real life people are usually expected to be rather reserved and polite. Also you see a lot of school life anime where the characters will be dressed in crazy fashions but in real life rules are very strict on appearance, even though a lot of anime or manga gets in right too.

Well thats about it, hope you like it be waiting for an other post soon.

For my first topic on witch I will discuss its corresponding misconceptions I decided to chose something that hits close to home because it is home.CANADA. In my opinion Canada is one of the best most beautiful countries and probably one of the best places to live on earth. But others don't necessarily see it the same and it gets a weird reputation.

Lets start with one of probably the biggest being that everyone is super nice and polite.Well this can be true for some and yes we say sorry for things other people do that doesn't mean we are all like that there are a lot of really mean and rude people.Since I brought up the word sorry that is an other one about the accent and we say sorry(so-re) and about(aboot) weirdly and say eh.  I have never heard someone say aboot or eh other then ironically.

Next the one where Canada is in a constant state of horribly cold snowy winter. This one is so off. First off Canada like most other places has four actually very different seasons where only one of witch fits that description. This is one that i thought was just a joke but no, I'm pretty sure theres a bunch of people that think this. They even had a video in disney that started out "jokingly" saying how Canada is cold and snowy 24/7 and they had to have Martin Short come on and explain that it wasn't so. I even once heard from someone I know who worked at the border that they had a family come over once in the heat of summer saying they wanted to take the family on a nice skying trip and asked where the nearest sky hill was, what a surprise they must have had. Some people are so very ignorant to the world around them.

So to rap this up we don't live in igloos, we don't ride polar bears to work or keep them as pets , we don't keep maple syrup in our pockets, the Mounties aren't the only police we have,we do have normal bacon, we don't all play hockey and we don't all speak perfectly fluent french.

Hello! Welcome to my blog, my name is Laura Kowalsky and in this blog I will be talking about some common misconceptions that I find relevant to modern day society. For those who don't know what a common misconception is, well to quote the first definition that popped up on the googles misconception is a conclusion that's wrong because it's based on faulty thinking or facts that are wrong. Your accusation about your brother's role in that unfortunate event at your party may be based on a misconception." Or to put it in my own words a common misconception is an idea that a wide spread of people put on something be it a group of people, a person, an object or what have you that isn't true and usually brought on by ignorance. They can come in various forms from something that sounds actually quite silly to most but someone somewhere believes it, to a myth that got really popular to the point most believe it to be fact.

Now that that is out of the way, I would just like to talk about my plans for this blog. What I was thinking was to have it that every post would talk about a subject and list out various misconceptions about said subject by separating the myths from the facts, and give my opinion it. Hopefully this will help you learn a little more about the world and the people around you or maybe help you win arguments and rub your superior intellect in your friends faces. So if you're interested in learning and possibly laughing at peoples ignorance and what they actually believe, then I invite you to follow and read my blog, witch probably will not be of the highest caliber given I'm a tenth grader doing this for an assignment so don't expect too much.
